Collective commitment
Sustainability at every level
Bearing responsibility means taking action
Responsibility is a central principle in how our family business sees itself. This includes sustainable management just as much as fair partnerships along the entire supply chain, environmental consciousness, and supporting people in the countries where our raw ingredients originate. Sustainability is a fundamental element of our corporate governance and is firmly embedded at all levels.
Our largest subsidiary, OTG, has defined five concrete areas of action and is working on short-, medium- and long-term goals to shape a sustainable future. The focus is on customers and products, supply chain, energy and environment, employees, and society. OTG uses the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), among others, for its sustainability strategy and activities. One of the goals is to utilise sustainable tea raw ingredients, which should increase to 100 per cent by 2030. Today, 70 per cent of the raw tea ingredients for black and green teas, as well as for herbal and fruit teas, originate from sustainable cultivation.
To ensure high supply chain standards, OTG works with strong partners to successfully master global challenges. For instance, it was the first large German tea company to join the Ethical Tea Partnership (ETP). Today, OTG even shapes ETP’s strategic approach through participation on its board of directors.
OTG published its Sustainability Progress Report 2020–2022, which presents results achieved and future goals, in addition to identifying the challenges inherent in the tea trade. The report can be downloaded through the following link: OTG Sustainability Progress Report 2020–2022.
Beyond that, as LSH, we take on responsibility in the region and in the industries of the business areas. Among our activities, we support projects for children and youth through our own foundation, actively promote environmental and climate protection, support regional sports and are involved in numerous associations.
